SKIN PROTECTANT, 115 g
DPP® is a 1% Dimethicone Barrier Protectant creating a physical barrier to seal in hydration, protect the skin from injury and restore moisture. Dimethicone is a silicone-based polymer that is frequently used as a skin protectant in skincare products. The second most common moisturising ingredient found in moisturisers after petrolatum, dimethicone helps condition the skin — improving its softness and flexibility.
01
Do thoroughly cleanse & dry the area before application.
02
Do apply a thin layer evenly over damaged skin or for more moist or severely damaged skin a more liberal layer should be applied. Apply gently over the area, do not rub.
03
Do apply following each incontinence episode and do apply when there is no visible sheen on the skin.
DERMA PROTECTIVE PLUS
Derma Protective Plus works quickly to aid injured skin associated with moisture or incontinence damage. There is extensive literature evidence that Dimethicone Skin Protectant Barriers are effective treatment options for the care of intact or injured skin (outermost layer of the epidermis) primarily associated with common, severe or chronic diarrhoea or incontinence. Southgate and Bradbury have stated that dimethicone skin barriers have benefits over similar products containing petrolatum and zinc oxide. They stated that dimethicone-based, ‘skin protectants are transparent once applied and are non-occlusive, so they do not affect pad absorbency or exacerbate maceration (as opposed to petrolatum and zinc oxide which can lead to „increasing hydration in already overhydrated skin“ and are opaque preventing effective assessment of the affected area).

When using Derma Protective Plus following a Perineorrhaphy, relief was felt and no additional rubbing occurred. I am able to go for short walks without causing any trauma to the area. Pain is also reduced as no friction is felt.
We are currently using it on a couple of patients, so far have liked it and is very comparable to its ‘main competitor’ we feel.
